When The Gang can’t figure out what to do to kill some time, they dust off the old toys and bust out the board games. But since this is the Always Sunny Gang we’re talking about here, the game they pull out is one of the most depraved and nonsensical games you’ll ever see — Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games.
I think I’ve got me a new drinking game. Cue theme song.
Before you can play a game you have to know the rules, right? While we learn the rules of the game with Frank, who himself is new to the game, we learn that Dee and Dennis have been whooping Chardee MacDennis ass since the game was invented. They’re like The U in the ’90s — brash prima-donnas who don’t lose. The game is made up of three levels with several opportunities built in to drink in between rounds. It’s a game predicated on one team’s ability to lie, cheat, and steal. And like all board games, you learn it as you go along. So don’t ask questions.
Level 1: Mind (Trivia, Puzzles, and Artistry): Even with an extra man on their team, Frank, Mac, and Charlie look to be outmatched by the half-brain shared by Sweet Dee and Dennis. Puzzles are bad. Trivia is made up. Don’t ask questions!!!
Level 2: Body (Physical Challenge, Pain, and Endurance): With all the rules and booze catching up to you by now, one might forget that cheating is tolerated in this game. Just don’t call it out so soon. Anyways Dennis shows us just how much pain he is able to endure, while Charlie shows us why he is not the sharpest bulb of the group. But unfortunately for the underdogs, Frank curses allowing Sweet Dee & Dennis (or The Golden Geese as they call themselves) to advance to the next level.
Level 3: Spirit (Emotional Battery and Public Humiliation): I imagined Sweet Dee would be great at this level of the game. Apparently she is. Having been berated with “some brutal personal shit”, Dee doesn’t get a chance to show off her will because Frank busts out a game-changing rule.
Bam! Game just got real… Thanks to Frank’s time in a dog kennel. While inside, he ate the raw ingredients of a cake and familiarized himself with the rulebook. Certainly helped, allowing Mac & Charlie an opportunity to steal their first win. But when time runs out there’s only one way to end The Game of Games.
Who won? Watch the goddamn show.
