Adam Yauch: “Now my name is MCA…”
Adam Yauch, best known as MCA of The Beastie Boys, was born August 5, 1964. As a founding member of The Beastie Boys, a hip-hop group based out of Brooklyn, NY, MCA entered the arena of Hip-Hop after a mildly successful run as a punk rock band. In 1983, the Hip-Hop trio of MCA, Mike D, and Ad-Rock, forever to be known as The Beastie Boys, was fully realized and began performing as a group over the production of fellow pioneer Rick Rubin. The subsequent records that followed would enter the canon of Hip-Hop and forever change the faces and sounds of what it meant to be cool. In 2009, MCA was diagnosed and treated for parotid gland cancer. In April of 2012, The Beastie Boys would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Adam Yauch would die less than a month later on May 4, 2012 at the age of 47. MCA was a true pioneer and showed fans everywhere that Hip-Hop was just as much about the culture as it was about the music. Ain’t no one iller.
Now my name is M.C.A.
I’ve got a license to kill
I think you know what time it is
It’s time to get ill
